Fifth Generation

218. Columbia G. WILLIAMS was born on 11 Jan 1863 in Russell, Kentucky. She died on 29 Apr 1929 in Major County, Oklahoma.

Columbia G. WILLIAMS and Alexander Jackson SUGGS were married on 14 Dec 1879 in Vernon County, Missouri.96 Alexander Jackson SUGGS was born on 5 Jul 1861 in Shannon County, Missouri.97 He died on 11 Feb 1946 in Timber Ridge, Oklahoma. According to his grandchildren, Audie Randall Perkins and Delbert Suggs, Alexander J Suggs apparently believed he was born Illinois just east of St Louis. However, he was born in July of 1861 just one month before his father Andrew Jackson Suggs fought in the Battle of Wilson's Creek MO on Aug 10 1861. It seems highly unlikely that Andrew Suggs would send his family to Illinois during such chaotic times while he was busy fighting for the Southern cause.

Alexander's mother died when he was 6 years old and his father died when he was 10 years old, and he was sent to live a relative named John McKissick near Joplin MO. John McKissick was a truly generous man who opened up his home to those in need. In the 1860 census when he was living in Moniteau County MO, J. W. Gwinn and his family of 5 was enumerated in the household of John McKissick. Alexander (and presumably his sisters Carrie and Mary) were sent to live with him some time after 1871. In the probate records (Book B p. 113) of Moniteau County dated 11 Dec 1856, John McKissick was appointed guardian and curator of the property of Verlina, William, Charles L., and Miles Suggs, minor heirs of the deceased Charles Suggs. Three of these children were still living with John McKissick in 1860.
